Circular Journey Tickets Fare Table (Distance-Wise)
Circular travel tickets give you the advantage of telescope rates, which are significantly lower than regular point-to-point fares. With these tickets, you not only save time but also have difficulty booking tickets for each leg of the journey.
GENERAL INFORMATION :
If you wish to go on a pilgrimage or sightseeing trip to many destinations, Indian Railways provides the facility of booking Circular Journey Tickets. These tickets offer you unique travel flexibility, as they are issued for all journeys (other than regular routes), which begin and complete at the same station. Circular journey Tickets can be purchased for all classes of travel. A maximum of eight break journeys will be admissible on these tickets. Here’s what I found regarding the Circular Journey Tickets (CJT) fare table (distance‑wise) and how fares are calculated:
Fare Calculation Method for Circular Journey Tickets
- CJT fares are computed as two one-way fares, where each leg’s distance is considered half of the total circular distance.
Example: A planned circular trip of 1,200 km (starting and ending at the same station) will be charged as two single journeys of 600 km each. - Fares are based on telescopic (graded) pricing, resulting in cost savings—typically more than 25% cheaper than booking equivalent routes separately with regular tickets.
Availability of Fare Tables (Distance-Wise)
- While an official fare table exists (listing tour numbers, distances, and class-wise fares), it is published through third‑party platforms and not officially released by Indian Railways. One such source provides details like:
- Tour No.
- Distance (km)
- AC 1‑Tier, AC 2‑Tier, AC 3‑Tier, Sleeper, First Class fare columns
- For South Central Railway, a PDF detailing specific circular routes and distances is available, though it may not include corresponding fare values.
Summary Table: Fare Structure Overview
Total Circular Distance | Fare Calculation Method | Cost Advantage |
---|---|---|
1,200 km | 2 × (600 km single journey fare) | Approx. 25% cheaper than booking separately |
Official Fare Table | Exists via third-party sources | Not formally published by Indian Railways |
How to Get Fare | Approach divisional authority; They compute based on CJT rules | Uses telescopic fare structure |
Next Steps for Fare Details
- Visit a Divisional Booking Office: To plan your specific circular route, you’ll need to approach the Divisional Commercial Manager or Booking Supervisor with your intended itinerary. They’ll calculate the fare based on the CJT rules.
- If you’d like, I can attempt to retrieve the existing fare table from that third-party source or help you model fare calculations for hypothetical routes using telescopic rates.
