  • With effect from 17 July 2025, Western Railway extended two existing special local trains between Dahanu Road and Virar all the way to Churchgate, exclusively for essential workers.
  • These services were introduced to support key healthcare, utility, and other essential staff during COVID‑19 restrictions

❗ Key Usage Notes & Context

  • These special services were meant solely for essential workers as per Maharashtra government guidelines at the time—not for general commuters
  • After commuter protests (e.g. the “rail roko” incident in Palghar), Western Railway continued running the DRD‑2 early morning Churchgate service to Dahanu without interruption through December 2025
  • There is no evidence that these special extended timings remain in effect in 2025. Routine commuter services have since resumed across the suburban network, and these special provisions are considered temporary, COVID-specific.
