Current Status & Progress
Closer to Reaching Sidhi
- The new Lalitpur–Singrauli rail line, passing through Rewa and Sidhi, is gradually taking shape. The stretch has progressed up to Baghwar in Sidhi district, while the segment extending to Singrauli awaits movement. A test run has been completed only up to Baghwar.
- There is ongoing land acquisition activity, particularly for the Bahari–Gondawali segment (km 124.4 to km 165.38), for which bids have been invited under an EPC contract worth ₹2,185.67 crore, expected to complete within 30 months.
Engineering Feats under Construction
- A major highlight is the construction of Madhya Pradesh’s longest railway tunnel (3,338 meters) between Govindgarh (Rewa side) and Baghwar (Sidhi side). This broad-gauge, single-line tunnel is under rigorous construction with technical oversight from Maulana Azad NIT, Bhopal.
Administrative Coordination & Land Acquisition Hurdles
- In early 2025, the Sidhi Collector emphasized the importance of prioritizing land acquisition for the Rewa–Sidhi–Singrauli line. Coordinated efforts between rail authorities and revenue officials were mandated to resolve pending issues soon.
- The MP Deputy Chief Minister urged swift clearance of land and forest approvals. Notably, ₹17 crore has been deposited with the Forest Department to facilitate construction, which includes bridges over Son and Gopad rivers and around 17 proposed tunnels.
Social & Legal Concerns
- The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices following a petition by a landowner claiming unfulfilled compensation or employment promises tied to land acquisition for this and the Khajuraho–Panna–Satna projects.
