📝 Train Service Guidelines (Effective 1 June 2025)

1. New Timetable Comes into Effect

  • Indian Railways introduced a revised nationwide timetable from 1 June 2025, which includes updated departure/arrival times, newly added express services, and adjustments aligned with seasonal demand.

2. Reservation Chart Rules

  • As of 1 May 2025, reservation charts are now prepared 8 hours before train departure, enhancing clarity for waitlisted passengers and reducing uncertainty.

3. No Waitlisted Boarding in AC/Sleeper Coaches

  • Starting May 2025, passengers holding waitlisted tickets are no longer allowed to board Sleeper or AC reserved coaches. They can only travel in Unreserved general compartments.
  • Note: Waitlist tickets are also capped—only 25% of berths per coach can be on waiting lists (excluding quotas for senior citizens, women, Divyangjans, and foreign tourists).

4. Advance Reservation Period (ARP)

  • Bookings open only up to 60 days in advance, reduced from 120 days (effective since 1 November 2025). Exceptions:
    • Foreign Tourist Quota: 365-day ARP

5. Emergency Quota (EQ) Requests

  • From July 2025 onwards, all Emergency Quota requests must be submitted at least one day prior to travel. Same-day applications are no longer accepted.

6. Tatkal Bookings: Aadhaar Authentication Now Mandatory

  • From 1 July 2025, Tatkal ticket bookings require Aadhaar-based OTP verification for all passengers booking online—aimed at reducing misuse.

7. Fare Revision Starting in July 2025

  • A minimal fare revision will come into force on 1 July 2025:
    • No fare hike for General Class travel up to 500 km.
    • AC/Tatkal categories may see a very slight increase (0.5–2 paise/km).
