Here’s what’s confirmed for the Chhath Puja 2025 period (Oct 24–Nov 4) regarding Mumbai Circular Railway (and suburban services), including special regulations and operations:
🌟 Chhath Puja Festival Train Operations 2025
🚆 Massive Special Train Deployments
- Across all zones, Indian Railways ran nearly 8,000 special trips to handle the Chhath Puja surge between October 1 and November 30, 2025—similar scale expected in 2025. ([turn0search8])
- Northern Railway alone operated 39 special trains on Nov 4, 2025, focusing on Bihar and UP connectivity.([turn0search10])
- Southern, Eastern, and Western Railways collectively ran over 3,500 extra festival trains, with increased coaches and crowd management systems in Mumbai and major terminuses.([turn0search5]turn0search11])
🚉 Mumbai Circular Railway Service on Chhath Puja Days
- There is no official documentation explicitly indicating regulation or suspension of Circular Railway services during Chhath Puja.
- However, suburban lines in Mumbai saw crowd control measures, including:
- Platform ticket restrictions at key stations like CST, Dadar, Kurla, Thane, Pune, etc., in late October–early November to prevent overcrowding.([turn0search20])
- Deployment of additional security staff (RPF/GRP) and supportive infrastructure (waiting rooms, RailSevaks) at busy stations.([turn0search20]turn0search14])
📝 Summary Table
Item | Status for Chhath Puja 2025 |
---|---|
Special trains (Chhath Puja rush) | ~8,000 trips, including festive specials |
Circular Railway (Mumbai local loop) | No official suspension or regulation published |
Platform ticket restrictions | Imposed at major Mumbai stations |
Crowd control measures | Yes—railway staff and facility enhancements |
✅ What This Means For Commuters
- Mumbai Circular Railway lines are expected to run normally during Chhath Puja 2025, but crowd management protocols may lead to localized entry control or delays.
- If you travel via stations like Kurla, Thane, CST, Dadar, Kurla, Matunga, anticipate longer entry queues or platform restrictions due to tight crowd monitoring.
- Special suburban trains were not formally introduced during Chhath Puja, unlike Holi (Feb 2025) or Ganpati festivals which saw ad-hoc slow locals at night.([turn0search16])
🧭 Tips for Travelers
- Use the NTES or IRCTC enquiry portal around the festival for any last-minute service advisories.
- If platforms are crowded, consider shifting boarding stations slightly away from hub areas.
- Local Circular service distance is short—peak congestion is manageable if you avoid major stations at peak evening hours.
