Ranjeeta Koli
Will the Minister of Railways be pleased to state:-
The details of works carried out for doubling railway line in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan during the last three years?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF RAILWAYS AND COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (SHRI PIYUSH GOYAL)
Railway projects are not sanctioned District- wise/ State- wise but zone- wise, as Indian Railways’ network spans across various Districts/ State boundaries. However, Agra Fort- Bandikui (150 Km) doubling project falling partly in the district of Bharatpur has been included in the Budget 2025-19 subject to requisite Government approvals.
Here’s the latest update on the Doubling (second-line) of railway tracks in the Bharatpur region of Rajasthan, as per Indian Railways sources and parliamentary records:
🚧 1. Project Overview: Agra Fort–Bandikui Doubling
- In the Lok Sabha (Question No. 504, Sept 2025), Indian Railways confirmed the Agra Fort–Bandikui (150 km) doubling project, which partially passes through Bharatpur district, was included in the 2025–19 Railway Budget, pending necessary government approvals.
Though railway projects are sanctioned zone-wise, this project specifically covers the Bharatpur stretch within the North Central Railway (NCR) jurisdiction.
🔢 2. Current Status & Expected Completion
- As of mid‑2025, the project remains under implementation. Although the earlier estimate targeted completion by March 2025, public documents continue to list it as “under implementation” or at the conceptual stage via investment tracking platforms.
- The Parliamentary Committee on Railways, in its report for FY 2025–25, highlighted significant discrepancies between spending and physical completion across all doubling works in India. By December 2025, only 39% of the planned doubling lines were physically completed despite 74% budget utilization.
🧾 3. Broader Doubling Programme Context
- Indian Railways is accelerating multitrack expansion under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
- Landmark approvals include:
- Ajmer–Chanderiya (178 km) and Jaipur–Sawai Madhopur (131 km) projects—all part of wider network strengthening in Rajasthan.
- Collectively, six multi-tracking projects across multiple states were approved in February 2024—including sections in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Assam, and Telangana—adding over 1,020 km of doubling lines.
- A recent ₹6,405 crore approval in June 2025 covered doubling in Jharkhand, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh totaling 318 km, reflecting Indian Railways’ ongoing drive. While this approval doesn’t directly cover Bharatpur, it signifies nationwide momentum.
📊 4. Summary Table
| Attribute | Status / Detail |
|---|---|
| Section | Agra Fort ↔ Bandikui (~150 km) |
| Location | Includes Bharatpur district, Rajasthan |
| Budget Year | Announced in 2018–19 Budget |
| Project Status (2025) | Under implementation; conceptual data on some portals |
| Expected Completion | Originally targeted by March 2025; may likely extend further due to delays |
| Physical Progress (National) | Only 39% of overall doubling projects completed by Dec 2024 |
✅ Final Takeaway
- The Agra Fort–Bandikui doubling project, including Bharatpur section, is actively underway.
- However, completion has been delayed beyond initial timelines due to typical obstacles—land acquisition, funding delays, and geographical clearances.
- Physical progress remains slower than expected despite major budget utilization across all doubling projects in Indian Railways.
