Indian Railway E-Patrolling App and Best Management App
WR GM INAUGURATED THE E – PATROLLING & BEAT MANAGEMENT APP OF RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE
FIRST EVER SUCH APP ON INDIAN RLYS
Western Railway’s Mumbai Division has introduced an E-Patrolling & Beat Management App on pilot basis. This App which is a first of its kind over Indian Railways, was inaugurated by Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway on Wednesday, 2nd December, 2025.
According to a Press Release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, the E-Patrolling & Beat Management App has been introduced for the first time over Indian Railways and has been implemented across the Mumbai division of WR as a pilot project on the basis of Railway Board’s directives. It is a matter of great pride that this system has been successfully implemented over W. Rly and is being used by all the posts of RPF for Beat Patrolling & Train Escort duties. Shri Thakur stated that the main objective of this system is to ensure systematic coverage of Duty Beats in entire Division, to ensure availability of Train Escorting staff in all coaches and to ensure effective supervision & monitoring of staff on duty.
Giving further details, Shri P. C. Sinha- Principal Chief Security Commissioner of Western Rly enumerate edvarious salient features of this App and stated that this App is a QR Code based non-contact system for supervision of RPF Staff. 340 QR Code plates have been provided at various locations such as at Stations, Yards, Mid-Section & Trains in the entire Division. The RPF personnel are required to download this E-Patrolling App & have to scan the QR Code through their mobile handset. It’s worth mentioning that this RPF E- Patrolling Android App is provisioed for 1586 RPF /RPSF staff to scan QR Code through their mobile. The app contains features such as E-Notice Board & Real-time Attendance. This enables real time monitoring of staff using Geotagging, photos of location with Date & Time. It also helps to provide history data to staff & supervisory officers for further analysis of performance & gauge the need for improvement. It is a 2-Tier monitoring – i.e both at RPF Post level as well as Divisional level to ensure hierarchical control & supervision with information access on jurisdiction basis. This also ensures Daily & Monthly Analytical Reports with graphical representation and Geospatial Mapping. Based on the analysis of the current system, it will be further evolved and expanded to all the beats in the Division.
Here’s what I found on the Indian Railway E-Patrolling App and related management tools:
Contents
1. E-Patrolling App – Railway Protection Force (RPF)
- Implemented by Western Railway (Mumbai Division), this app facilitates real-time supervision of RPF staff conducting beat patrols and train escorts. It uses QR code scanning, GPS geotagging, and photographs to log staff attendance and locations. Features include an E-Notice Board, real-time attendance, performance analytics, and geospatial dashboards for supervisors.
- The app helps ensure systematic coverage of duty beats and enhances accountability through daily and monthly analytical reports with graphical and spatial insights.
- This application is strictly for internal use by RPF/RPSF staff.
2. TDMS App – Traction Department Tool
- Developed by CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) for internal use by the Traction Directorate, TDMS is an advanced reporting and monitoring app that includes features like:
- GPS-based foot patrolling
- Real-time tracking and photo reporting of overhead equipment (OHE) defects
- Requisitioning for power blocks via SMS
- Real-time breakdown reporting with photos
- One-page auto-generated reports with forwarding options
3. Best-In-Class Management Apps (Outside IR Context)
While not specific to Indian Railways, the following industry-grade patrol management apps illustrate advanced capabilities often sought in field operations and security:
- eFACiLiTY Patrol Management System: Offers dynamic route planning, real-time GPS/QR/RFID scanning, incident reporting, SOS alerts, and comprehensive analytics.
- VersionX Guard Tour System: Provides QR/RFID-enabled tracking, SOS alerting, multimedia incident reporting, live dashboards, and audit trails—ideal for high-compliance environments.
These can serve as benchmarks for future railway tool enhancements.
