Here’s what I found about the upgrade of the Indore – Pune Ordinary Express to Superfast status, including changes to its train number, as conducted by Western Railway:

Conversion to Superfast Express & Train Number Change

  • The Indore–Pune Ordinary Express (via Panvel)—which previously ran under train numbers 19311/19312—was upgraded to Superfast Express status.
  • With this upgrade, the train’s number was changed to 22943/22944, and it came to be known as the Indore–Pune (later Indore–Daund) Superfast Express.
This change occurred around July 2016.

What the Upgrade Signifies

  • Average speeds increased, qualifying the service as Superfast and enabling faster transit between Indore and Pune.
  • The train was rerouted through Karjat–Panvel–Vasai Road, moving away from its earlier path, which also contributed to time efficiencies.
  • Later, in the late 2020s, the service was extended to Daund Junction, making it the Indore–Daund Superfast Express—retaining the same train numbers (22943/22944).

TL;DR Summary

  • Former Train No.: 19311/19312 (Indore–Pune Express via Panvel; Ordinary/Mail Express)
  • Upgraded To: Superfast Express in July 2025
  • New Train No.: 22943/22944 (Indore–Daund Superfast Express)
  • Route Change: Re-aligned via Karjat–Panvel–Vasai Road
  • Enhancement: Faster speeds, more efficient service
