Guidelines for Train Services beginning on 1st June, 2025-Instructions Related To Concessions

  • All quotas to be permitted in regular trains & limited number of reservation counters to be operated
  • Concessions for only 4 categories of Divyangjan & 11 categories of patient concessions permitted
  • Cancellation and Refund rule as per Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Ticket and Refund of Fare) Rules, 2025
  • Refund of fare if in case passenger not found fit for travelling due to symptoms of Corona

Here are the updated guidelines regarding fare concessions on Indian Railways, effective from 1 June 2025:


🎫 Senior Citizen Concession (Reinstated June 1, 2025)

  • Men aged 60+ and women aged 58+ (Indian nationals) are now eligible again for fare concessions.
  • Discount rates (on base fare only; reservation charges and surcharges apply fully):
    Passenger Type Concession Applicable Classes
    Men (60+) 40% 2S, SL, 3A, 2A, CC (AC Chair), FC
    Women (58+) 50% Same as above
  • Not valid on Tatkal, Premium Tatkal, or foreign tourist quota bookings.
  • Booking concession is mandatory via IRCTC or ticket counters. Must carry valid ID during travel.

♿ Persons with Disabilities & Medical Concessions

Concessions available for various categories including Persons with Disabilities (PWD), cancer/heart/kidney patients, thalassemia, tuberculosis, etc.:

  • Typical concession levels:
    • Up to 75% on base fare for many PWD and medical conditions;
    • Escort eligible for the same discount.
  • Valid from 01 June 2025, subject to valid Railway-issued concession certificate (prior format ID cards remain valid until expiry).

🎓 Student Concessions

  • Concessions offered to students traveling home or for educational purposes (e.g., exams, academic tours).
  • Common levels:
    • 75% for SC/ST girls up to graduation; boys up to 12th grade, for travel related to education.
    • 50% for general category students on select journeys.
  • Note: Concessions apply only to base fare and require valid documentation.

  • Only one concession per passenger per journey is allowed.
  • Breaks in journey aren’t permitted unless explicitly allowed (e.g. for exams/hospital visits).
  • Concessions are applied based on Mail/Express base fares, even if traveled on Passenger train.
  • Concessions aren’t available for journeys funded by government bodies or institutions, except student beneficiaries.
  • Concession is not allowed in premium/special trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Humsafar, etc.
