Here’s the latest on both the Miraj–Londa Railway Project and the Gadag–Hotgi Doubling Project, focusing on recent developments and how they interlink with broader network upgrades:

🚆 Miraj–Londa Railway Project (Doubling & Electrification)

🔧 Project Scope & History

  • The Pune–Miraj–Londa line extends ~468 km: ~280 km under Central Railway (Pune–Miraj) and ~188 km under South Western Railway (Miraj–Londa)
  • The Miraj–Londa doubling, spanning ~186 km, is executed in 7 phases. Phase I (Ghataprabha–Chikkodi Road, 16 km) was commissioned in December 2025. Remaining phases are underway, but work slowed due to COVID-19; resumed mid‑2025

📈 Capacity Upgrades & Speed

  • During the lockdown, SWR rebuilt 4 minor bridges on the Miraj–Londa section to improve safety and rail capacity without disrupting normal service
  • The Commissioner of Railway Safety approved increasing the sectional speed on the Londa–Miraj stretch from 100 km/h to 110 km/h thanks to improved tracks and maintenance

🚉 Operations & Future Enhancements

  • As of mid‑2023, approximately 154 km of the doubling had been completed, with recent sections like Ugarkhurd–Vijayanagar (18.5 km) formally inspected and commissioned with major and minor bridges completed too

🛤️ Miraj Chord Line Project

  • A 1.73‑km chord line project at Miraj Junction was approved in June 2025, costing Rs 128.78 crore. Its purpose is to decongest Miraj Junction by avoiding up to 120-minute engine or brake-van reversals for trains coming from Kurduwadi/Hubballi heading toward Kolhapur, thus improving operational efficiency for both freight and passenger services

🔁 Gadag–Hotgi Doubling Project (Connected Corridor)

  • Sanctioned in 2025–15, the Gadag–Hotgi section (148 km) is being doubled and electrified. The Hotgi–Kudgi portion (134 km) was funded by NTPC under a customer-funded model and commissioned between 2025 and 2025. Other sub-sections like Hole Alur–Badami (19 km) and Badami–Guledagudda (13.2 km) were commissioned in FY 2025–23. Remaining sections (e.g., Guledagudda–Almatti, Almatti–Wandal) are targeted for completion by December 2025 and FY 2025–24, respectively
  • Recent tenders include slope protection and bridge-area works between Gadag and Hotgi, closed by December 2025/February 2025, indicating finishing touches to the project

📋 Summary Table

Project Scope & Status Recent Milestones
Miraj–Londa Doubling 186 km doubling in 7 phases ~154 km commissioned; bridges rebuilt; speed increased to 110 km/h
Miraj Junction Chord Line 1.73 km chord to decongest junction Approved June 2025; Rs 128.78 cr under Central Railway
Gadag–Hotgi Doubling 148 km doubling & electrification project Most sectors commissioned by late 2025; balance work tendered through early 2025

🌐 Regional & Operational Impact

  • The Miraj–Londa upgrades, along with electrification and increased speed, directly improve connectivity between Maharashtra and Karnataka, significantly benefiting freight movement toward Goa ports and enhancing train speeds on the Pune–Miraj corridor
  • The Miraj chord line will streamline operations at a critical junction, reducing delays and enabling more efficient handling of passenger and freight traffic across multiple routes.
  • The Gadag–Hotgi corridor, adjacent to the Londa–Miraj line, contributes to the broader network enhancements in the South Western Railway zone, enabling double-track, electrified freight-friendly routes.

✅ Outlook & Next Key Steps

  • Completion of the remaining doubling and electrification phases on Miraj–Londa is expected by late 2025 or early 2026, given current progress.
  • Full commissioning of remaining Gadag–Hotgi sections is targeted by early to mid 2026.
  • The Miraj chord line construction should be underway or nearing execution, following its approval in mid-2025.
  • Once complete, the corridor will support faster express trains, improved freight capacity, and greater operational resilience in Western Maharashtra and adjoining Karnataka.
