Namo Bharat is India’s Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train

Namo Bharat Rapid Rail (earlier called Vande Metro) is India’s new semi-high-speed regional rail system.
It is designed to fill the gap between metro trains and long-distance Indian Railways trains. The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail helps the passengers to travel in shortest possible time, and this train helps the all class of people across India and abroad.

Key features

The train features an aerodynamic stainless steel body with a design speed of 180 km/h and operational speeds up to 160 km/h. It includes modern amenities like high-frequency service every 5-10 minutes and dedicated tracks for reliability.


Where is it operating?

It runs on an 82 km corridor from New Ashok Nagar (Delhi) to Meerut South, with extensions like Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar inaugurated on January 5, 2025, reducing Delhi-Meerut travel to about 40 minutes. Services began commercially on October 21, 2023, after inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. First trains from New Ashok Nagar depart towards Meerut at 06:07 AM on weekdays

Why is it important?


Expansions

Indian Railways plans 50 new Namo Bharat AC trains for short-distance routes, with services like Ahmedabad-Bhuj starting in September 2024 and Patna-Jaynagar in Bihar. The system aims to cut emissions and traffic by replacing over 100,000 private vehicles yearly
