(a) The details of Railway projects that are pending in Rajasthan;
(b) Whether the Government proposes to sanction any new projects in the State; and

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (C) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 275 BY SHRI ARJUN LAL MEENA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 03.02.2025 REGARDING RAILWAY PROJECT IN RAJASTHAN
(a): Railway projects are sanctioned Zonal Railway-wise, not State-wise, as Indian Railways’ network spans across various State boundaries. However, as on 01.04.2025, 30 projects (11 new lines, 05 gauge conversion and 14 doubling) covering a total length of 5,173 km and costing Rs.57,247 crore, falling fully / partly in the State of Rajasthan are in different stages of Planning / Sanction / Execution.
Average Annual Budget allocation for infrastructure projects and safety works, falling fully / partly in the State of Rajasthan, during 2014-19 has increased to Rs.2,951 crore per year, from Rs.682 crore per year (during 2009-14). Thus, an increase of 333% over the average annual budget allocation of 2009-14 (Rs.682 crore per year).
Budget allotment for infrastructure projects and safety works, falling fully / partly in the State of Rajasthan for financial year 2019-20 was Rs.4686 crore, which is 587% more w.r.t. 2009-14. Budget allocation of Rs.4582 crore has been provided for Financial Year 2020-21, which is 572% more with respect to average Budget outlay for 2009-14.
During 2009-14, 798 Km length (61 Km New Line, 675 Km Gauge Conversion and 62 Km Doubling) falling fully / partly in the State of Rajasthan was commissioned at an average rate of 160 Km per year.

New Rail Lines in Rajasthan

Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government proposes to lay new railway lines in several parts of the country including Rajasthan and if so, the details thereof; and
(b) whether proposals of various States regarding new railway lines are under consideration of the Government and if so, the details thereof?
ANSWER – MINISTER OF RAILWAYS AND COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (SHRI PIYUSH GOYAL)
(a) & (b): Presently, Indian Railway have taken up 188 New Lines Projects of total length 21,295 Km and costing Rs.3.87 lakh crore, which are in different stages of planning/sanction/execution.
These includes 11 New Line Projects falling fully/partly in the State of Rajasthan of total length 1237.86 km and costing Rs.15,303 crore. Out of which 68.94 Km length has been commissioned and an expenditure of Rs.1543.24 crore has been incurred till March 2019.
Thorough review of throughput enhancement projects has been carried out and with focussed approach, the projects have been prioritized into Super Critical Projects (58 nos), Critical Projects (68 nos.) and other throughput enhancement projects (130 nos.).
Presently, the balance length of Super Critical Projects is 2347 km, 5676 km of Critical Projects and 9703 Km for other Doubling Projects. The throw-forward for these projects is of the order of Rs.1.84 lakh crores and all out sincere and focussed approach is being adopted by Railway for quick execution and early return to Railways.

🚆 New Railway Lines Sanctioned & Approved
Under the 2025–25 Union Budget, the North Western Railway zone has received ₹9,714 crore, including ₹1,438 crore for new rail lines across Rajasthan—covering approximately 1,500 km of new track
Eight major new lines include:
- Dausa–Gangapur City:
92.7 km (₹300 crore) - Ratlam–Dungarpur:
176.5 km (₹150 crore) - Ajmer–Kota (via Nasirabad–Jalindri):
145 km (₹50 crore) - Pushkar–Merta:
59 km (₹50 crore) - Taranga Hill–Abu Road (via Ambaji):
89.4 km (₹300 crore) - Neemuch–Bari Sadri:
48.3 km (₹100 crore) - Gudha Thathana–Meethari Duttu: ~25 km (~120 crore)
Additionally, Pushkar–Merta and Ras–Merta lines were formally approved end‑2025 to improve pilgrimage connectivity in Ajmer district
🔁 Important Doubling & Capacity Expansion Projects
The same budget allocates ₹925 crore to double seven priority routes, including:
- Phulera–Degana (~108 km)
- Degana–Rai Ka Bag (approx. 145 km)
- Jaipur–Sawai Madhopur (~131 km)
- Ajmer–Chittorgarh (~186 km)
- Sawai Madhopur Bypass (~7 km)
- Churu–Ratangarh (~43 km)
- Manheru–Bhawani Khera (~31.5 km)
Notably, Jaipur–Sawai Madhopur doubling and upgrades on the Ajmer–Chittorgarh route were also separately sanctioned in early 2025, at an estimated ₹1,268 crore and ₹1,813 crore respectively, covering ~152 km and ~178 km of route tracks . The Luni–Samdari–Bhildi (via Degana / Ratangarh) line (128.75 km) also received ₹1,276 crore sanction for new line construction from the same plan
⚙️ Strategic & Infrastructure Projects
- Taranga Hill–Ambaji–Abu Road new line (~116.65 km) is under construction and expected to be completed by 2026–27. It connects Rajasthan with Gujarat and supports pilgrimage connectivity for Taranga and Ambaji
- Rajasthan is also initiating its first broad-gauge high-speed test track near Gudha (Phulera) for speeds up to 230 km/h, with operational readiness by late 2025. This ~60 km corridor includes high-speed loops and four test stations in Jodhpur Division
- A Jaipur Orbital Rail Corridor (~70 km) is planned to decongest city rail traffic via ring alignment—key to future urban transit upgrades
- IR is constructing the country’s first dedicated Vande Bharat maintenance depot at Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur Division, setting the stage for expanded premium train services in the state
🧱 Station Redevelopment & Electrification
- Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 103 stations across India were inaugurated in May 2025, including 8 stations in Rajasthan
- Nearly ₹990 crore allocated for electrification across multiple lines in Rajasthan—covering sections such as Ajmer–Udaipur (~301 km), Jaipur–Phulera–Ringas (~142 km), Rewari–Bikaner (~487 km), and Jodhpur–Luni (~135 km)
