Project Snapshot
- A 326 km railway line from Lohardaga to Korba via Gumla, including possible extensions to Pathalgaon and Dharamjaigarh, has been surveyed and is under active consideration. The preliminary survey was sanctioned in December 2025.
Strategic Importance
- The proposed route—Lohardaga → Gumla → Korba—would connect industrial and mineral-rich zones, facilitating freight movement and reducing travel times within this economically vital corridor.
Advocacy & Regional Development Push
- In July 2025, MP Sukhdev Bhagat appealed in Parliament for the Lohardaga–Gumla–Korba line to be included in the Railway Budget due to Gumla’s longstanding lack of connectivity. This emphasizes the deep local demand for the project.
- Supporting this, recent media coverage highlights that Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, and Chatra are set to receive rail connections for the first time post-independence. A 55 km Lohardaga–Gumla segment has been surveyed, alongside other districts.
