Draft Documents for Discussion on Private Participation in Passenger Trains

Ministry of Railways and National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, Government of India are spearheading participation of private entities in operation of passenger trains on 100 routes. In this respect, a draft of Request for Qualification (RFQ) document, Concession Agreement Guiding Principles, Project Information Memorandum (PIM) along with a Presentation on the salient features of the Project (Draft Documents) have been uploaded on the NITI Aayog website (https://www.niti.gov.in).
All stakeholders are requested to review the Draft Documents and provide written comments (if any) by or before January 17, 2025. The comments can be sent in the enclosed format, preferably in electronic form, addressed to Mr Ch.P.S.Reddy, ED/Transformation, Railway Board on the email: ps.reddy@gov.in

1. Jammu Tawi – Srinagar Vande Bharat Express
- Train Nos.: 26401/26402/26403/26404
- Route: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra ↔ Srinagar (via Jammu Tawi and Banihal)
- Inauguration / Commercial Run: Flagged off on June 6, 2025, entered service from June 7, 2025
- A high-speed Mini Vande Bharat 2.0, covering ~193 km in under 3 hours, six times a week.
2. Gorakhpur – Patliputra (Patna) Vande Bharat Express
- Train Nos.: 26502 / 26501
- Route: Gorakhpur ↔ Patliputra (~384 km) via Muzaffarpur and Hajipur
- Launch Date: Flagged off on June 20, 2025; commercial services commenced same day
- A Mini Vande Bharat Express connecting Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh in ~7 hours.
3. Malda Town – Gomti Nagar Amrit Bharat Express
- Train Nos.: 13435 / 13436
- Route: Malda Town (West Bengal) → Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) (~948 km)
- Inaugurated on: July 18, 2025, entered commercial service on July 24, 2025
- India’s sixth non‑AC Amrit Bharat service—affordable long-distance travel with bio-toilets, charging points and enhanced interiors.
4. Darbhanga – Gomti Nagar (Lucknow) Amrit Bharat Express
- Train Nos.: 15561 / 15562
- Route: Darbhanga ↔ Lucknow (~629 km)
- Expected to begin operating from July 18, 2025; weekly service planned.
- Equipped with modern AC design features: Bio-vacuum toilets, reading lights, CCTV, and comfortable berths.
Newly Commissioned Express Service
5. Raipur – Jabalpur Express
- Train Nos.: 11701 / 11702
- Route: Raipur ↔ Jabalpur
- Launch Date: Officially flagged off on August 4, 2025
- Includes AC Chair Car and general class—daily service boosting trade and tourism connectivity across Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
6. Bengaluru – Rishikesh Direct Express
- Train Nos.: 06597 / 06598
- Inauguration/Service Start: Begins service on June 19, 2025
- The first-ever direct train linking Bengaluru and Rishikesh; supported by full schedule, fare, and stops. Enhances access between south India and Uttarakhand pilgrimage sites.
Under Development & Future Rollouts
- Indian Railways plans to launch approximately 200 new Vande Bharat trains, including sleeper versions, over the next 2–3 years.
- 100 new Amrit Bharat and 50 Namo Bharat (RRTS / Vande Metro) services also slated for roll-out.
- An Ajni–Pune Sleeper Vande Bharat Express is expected later in August 2025, as part of the sleeper series expansion.
