RESUMPTION OF TRAIN SERVICES IN NILGIRI MOUNTAIN RAILWAY WITH EFFECT FROM 06.09.2025 AFTER MORE THAN 4 MONTHS OF SUSPENSION
Train services in the entire Mettupalayam – Udagamandalam (Ooty) section of Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) will resume on a daily basis with effect from 06th September, 2025. Upon resumption, the NMR services will be operated as Fully Reserved Special Trains.
One pair of fully reserved special trains will be run between Mettupalayam – Udagamandalam and three pairs of fully reserved special trains will be operated between Coonoor – Udagamandalam.
The same fare structure which was in force in pre-COVID times (prior to suspension of services) will continue.
All the COVID safety protocols will be strictly followed. Passengers are requested to cooperate with Railways and adhere to COVID appropriate behaviour such as wearing of face masks and social distancing. Furthermore, passengers are requested to adhere to the regulations issued by the Nilgiris District administration with regard to Covid-19 and the ecology of Nilgiris.

After suspension of NMR services during the first wave of Covid-19, train services were resumed on 31.12.2025 and were operated till 20.04.2021. The services were suspended with effect from 21.04.2025 due to the second wave of Covid-19.
Only Reserved passengers will be allowed to travel in the NMR train services.
