NEW DELHI: Now, people can get the live status of a train on WhatsApp. The Railways recently announced that all the information regarding the train queries such as timings and station, could be availed through WhatsApp, and that passengers will no longer have to dial 139 to ask about train status.

To avail the facility, a passenger will have to save a number, which is- 7349389104 via MakeMyTrip on their mobile phones. After which, the person will need to send a train number on this number through WhatsApp, and details of the respective train will be provided. However, passengers must note that it may take some time to get updates as the server might be busy. But they can look out for blue ticks to know if the server has received the message.
Further, a tool has been developed which now lets you confirm your railway ticket status. The Minister of State of Railways (GoI), Rajen Gohain in a written statement to the Rajya Sabha on Friday confirmed that a tool had been developed which will help in predicting the probability of a wait-listed ticket getting confirmed when the ticket is being booked as well as during PNR enquiry of the wait-listed ticket.
This new feature has been incorporated in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website and has been in operation since June this year. The tool which has been designed using the ‘Machine Learning’ algorithm and the wait-listed PNR data of the past two years, will predict the confirmation probability for future journeys.
