Premium Tatkal Charges Calculation
With effect from 01.10.2025, in some of the selected trains which are high in demand, 50% of the existing accommodation under Tatkal Quota has been earmarked as Premium Tatkal Quota and is being booked on dynamic pricing. This is a distance-slab based fare scheme where the fare increases by 20% after each slab of 10% berths subject to maximum three times of tatkal fare. Further w.e.f 09.09.2025, flexi fare system has been introduced in Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi trains. Under this system, the base fare increases by 10% with every 10% of berths sold subject to maximum ceiling limit of 1.5 times in classes Second AC, Sleeper, Second Sitting (Reserved), AC Chair Car and 1.4 times in 3rd AC class. No change has been made in the fares for Ist AC and Executive Class of travel.
Premium Tatkal Charges & Fare Structure follow a dynamic pricing model — the fare increases with demand, similar to airline pricing.
💰 Premium Tatkal Fare Calculation
The total fare = Base Fare + Premium Tatkal Charges + Reservation, Catering, and Other Charges.
📌 Premium Tatkal Charges (over Base Fare)
- AC Classes (1A, 2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E) → 30% of Base Fare or minimum amount fixed by Railways, whichever is higher.
- Non-AC Classes (SL, 2S) → 30% of Base Fare or minimum fixed, whichever is higher.
💵 Minimum Premium Tatkal Charges (per passenger)
Class | Minimum PT Charge |
---|---|
1A (First AC) | ₹400 |
2A (Second AC) | ₹400 |
3A (Third AC) | ₹300 |
3E (Economy 3AC) | ₹300 |
CC (Chair Car) | ₹300 |
SL (Sleeper) | ₹200 |
2S (Second Sitting) | ₹75 |
🔹 Example: Sleeper Class Premium Tatkal Fare
If Base Fare (normal) = ₹500
PT Charge = 30% of ₹500 = ₹150
But minimum PT charge for SL is ₹200 → so ₹200 is applied instead of ₹150.
Final fare = ₹500 + ₹200 + reservation charges + GST (if applicable).
⚠ Notes:
- No concessions — full fare applies.
- Refunds not allowed except in case of train cancellation.
- Dynamic — If base fare increases (due to peak season, higher demand), PT charges also rise.
If you want, I can prepare a Premium Tatkal Fare Calculator table for each class so you can quickly estimate ticket costs without using IRCTC every time. That would save a lot of guesswork.
