Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL)

  • The USBRL, a crucial 272 km project costing ₹41,159 crore, is nearing completion—bridging the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India
  • Testing for the Katra–Srinagar segment is completed; commercial operations will begin soon
  • Jammu Railway Division was inaugurated in January 2025, making this region the 70th division of Indian Railways

Major Engineering Milestones

  • The Chenab Bridge, the world’s tallest railway arch bridge at 359 meters, was inaugurated on June 6, 2025. It’s a key part of the link, symbolizing engineering achievement
  • Tunnel 50 (T-50), the longest transportation tunnel in India (~12.775 km), part of the USBRL, achieved completion in February 2025

Vande Bharat Express Introduction

  • Two Vande Bharat Express trains were flagged off:
