Budget Allocation for Karnataka
- ₹7,564 crore has been allocated for railway projects in Karnataka for FY 2025-26—a small but notable increase from ₹7,559 crore in the previous year
- This marks a ninefold increase compared to the 2009–14 average, reflecting sustained growth in railway investments in the state
Suburban Rail Priority
- The Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP) continues to receive support with an allocation of ₹350 crore, matching last year’s funding
- Two priority corridors are under construction:
- Mallige Line (Benniganahalli – Chikkabanavara), aimed for completion by March 2027
- Kanaka Line (Heelalige – Rajanakunte), also targeted for March 2027 completion
- The full suburban rail system will include four lines named after regional flowers, expanding Bengaluru’s commuter network
Infrastructure Expansion & Safety Upgrades
- Karnataka has laid 1,652 km of new track since 2025—more than entire networks of some countries—with 31 active projects covering 3,840 km and costing ₹47,016 crore
- Electrification has reached 96.5% of routes, grown from 18 km/year pre-2025 to 294 km/year since then
- 61 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme with an investment of ₹1,981 crore.
- Yesvantpur: ₹367 crore (completion by July 2025)
- Bengalore Cantonment: ₹485 crore (completion by October 2025)
- Safety is being enhanced with Kavach (train protection) systems being tendered for ~1,672 km, 644 ROBs/RUBs constructed, 61 lifts, 43 escalators, and Wi-Fi at 335 stations
New Trains and Connectivity Enhancements
- Karnataka now operates 10 Vande Bharat trains across 12 districts, plus the Amrit Bharat Express linking Bengaluru to Malda Town
- The Belagavi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated in August 2025. It covers 606 km in 8.5 hours, with AC Chair and Executive Chair classes, onboard Wi-Fi, infotainment, Kavach, etc.
- The Gadag–Wadi line began partial operations—257 km costing ₹2,842 crore—with 56 km completed and the rest in progress
Doubling & Clearance Projects
- The Ballari–Chikjajur rail line received cabinet approval for doubling as part of a ₹6,405 crore package including Jharkhand’s Koderma–Barkakana project
- On the Mangaluru–Hassan ghat section, Arebetta station is being upgraded to manage landslide-prone terrain. Electrification of key sections is underway, with completion expected by October 2025
