Fare Revision Effective July 1, 2025 (Fiscal Year 2025–26)
The Ministry of Railways issued a fare rationalization—Circular No. 11 of 2025—implementing minor fare hikes for long-distance Indian Railways passenger services, including Mail/Express, premium, and ordinary trains
Ordinary Non‑AC (Non‑Suburban) Trains
- Second Class: No increase for journeys up to 500 km; beyond that:
- ₹5 extra: 501–1500 km
- ₹10 extra: 1501–2500 km
- ₹15 extra: 2501–3000 km
- Sleeper Class & First Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per km across distances
Mail/Express Trains (Non‑AC)
- Second, Sleeper, and First Class: +1 paisa per km for all distances
AC Classes (Mail/Express, Premium)
- AC Chair Car, 3‑Tier, 2‑Tier, First/Executive/Anubhuti: +2 paisa per km
- This adjustment also applies to premium trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Gatimaan, Mahamana, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, Vistadome, and Anubhuti coaches
Unaffected Categories
- Suburban train fares, season tickets, reservation fees, superfast surcharges, and GST remain unaffected

Additional Insight
- Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw described the revision as highly minimal—ranging from 0.5 to 2 paisa per km—aimed at maintaining fare affordability while sustaining subsidies (approx. ₹60,466 crore, or 45% subsidy in FY 2025–24)
- This fare hike marks the first national fare revision since the COVID-19 pandemic, and one of the smallest in recent years
