In cases where PRS counter ticket has been purchased for such stations where stoppages are cancelled, the PNR shall be cancelled in the reservation system prior to the preparation of first reservation chart. Full refund of fare shall be granted without deduction of cancellation charges on surrendering of original ticket across any reservation counter within 30 days of the date of journey. In case of counter tickets booked through digital transactions, refund of fare shall be credited to the transaction account.

In case of E-tickets the refund will be granted without any cancellation charge by IRCTC.

Here’s the confirmed guidance and rules regarding withdrawal of train stoppages (especially in special trains) and the resulting refund of passenger fares:

🛑 When Train Stops Are Removed

🔄 E‑Ticket Holders:

  • If the booked stoppage is officially withdrawn, IRCTC automatically cancels the affected e‑tickets.
  • You receive a full fare refund, with no cancellation charges deducted, credited to your original payment method.

🧾 PRS Counter (Physical Ticket) Holders:

  • The PNR is cancelled in the system before the chart is prepared.
  • Passengers must surrender the original ticket at any PRS counter within 30 days of the journey.
  • After verification, a full refund is processed without deductions. E‑payments made for such tickets are refunded to the bank account used.

⚖️ Refund Rules Under Railway Regulations

  • According to Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Ticket and Refund of Fare) Rules, 2025:
    • Rule 13: If a train’s journey is disrupted (e.g., an unscheduled stoppage is axed or your station is no longer served), you are entitled to a full refund with no cancellation charges, provided the ticket is surrendered before departure or charting or an online TDR is filed in time.
    • Rule 16: In cases where the train is dislocated mid-journey (rerouted, diverted, or stopped unexpectedly), passengers can retain fare for the portion traveled and get full refund of the rest.

✅ Quick Reference Table

Ticket Type How Refund Works When Stop Is Withdrawn Amount Refunded
E‑Ticket Auto-cancelled before chart; no action needed 100% fare refunded
PRS Counter Ticket PNR cancelled; surrender original at PRS counter within 30 days 100% fare refunded

🧠 What You Should Do

  1. Do not manually cancel—let the system or railway trigger the cancellation.
  2. If booked via PRS counter, surrender your ticket within 30 days.
  3. If you filed TDR after departure or cancelled manually, refund eligibility may be subject to standard cancellation rules.
  4. Tatkal tickets: if confirmed and stoppage removed, refund eligibility still applies per Rule 13; waitlisted/cancelled Tatkal tickets are treated per normal rules.

🧭 Final Note

If the railway removes a scheduled stop from a special train you booked, it is considered a railway‑initiated change, making you eligible for a full refund without deduction—whether booked online or at a counter.
